Georgia National Forests

North Georgia national parks include the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, spreading across over 860,000 acres of gorgeous wilderness, with over 530 miles of trails that visitors can explore by hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, or revving up their off-road vehicles. Take advantage of photo opportunites atop one of the many rolling hills and mountains within the forest, or enjoy a picnic with fully comprehensive amenities including picnic tables, grills and camp sites.

Water sports abound on the flowing Chattahoochee, Toccoa, and Chattooga Rivers, as well as numerous lakes (from the 18-acre Lake Winfield Scott to the 15,333-acre Lake Sinclair). Enjoy swimming, canoeing, kayaking, tubing, white water rafting, and fishing in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Boat ramps can be found at various places around the perimeters of the lakes and rivers, usually near the campsites. Georgia's waters are full of rock and smallmouth bass, brown trout, rainbow trout, bream, perch, catfish, and crappie. Anglers can set up their rods along the shore or on one of the docks or piers in the area.

History buffs will enjoy visiting the sites where Civil War battles were fought. The Trail of Tears also passed through this region.

The nearby Nantahala National Forest provides even more opportunity for outdoor adventure. Located in Cherokee County, just south of all Kaylor's cabins, the Nantahala offers hiking, swimming, mountain biking, camping, nature trails, horseback riding, and more. Adjacent to Nantahala is the Cherokee National Forest, which spans an immense 652,000 acres of pristine land where visitors can fish, camp, hunt, picnic, boat, hike, bike, or leisurely enjoy the relaxing outdoors.
